Panel Theme:
Navigating African career and entrepreneurial opportunities

Panel Description:

As messages of Africa’s potential continue to be narrated in spite of economic pressures, students, professionals and entrepreneurs living outside of Africa are turning their heads towards the Continent and wondering if, how and when they should move to Africa to take on a new career or business opportunity.
With the state of the global economy is this the opportune time to be moving to the Continent or are unpredictable African currencies and commodity prices a reason to steer clear? If you decide to go, when and to what kind of opportunity? Where do you even find and secure these opportunities and how do you ensure success and longevity once you arrive? This panel invites you to bring your drink from the reception, and explore the realities of moving to an Africa opportunity in an interactive, candid discussion.

Guiding Questions:

  1. Should graduates, professionals and entrepreneurs living outside of Africa seriously consider the Continent for their next career or business challenge or endeavour
  2. When is the right time to start? Is there such a thing as perfect timing? Should you wait until you have built-up ‘enough experience’ or cash?
  3. How do you find and secure the right opportunity, and what is the optimal entry / re-entry strategy?
  4. Which skills should be developed before the big move and what does it take to succeed on arrival?
  5. What are the real challenges of moving to Africa, and which challenges are exaggerated?
  6. What are the most exciting and untapped opportunities in Africa right now?
  7. How can I plan for my own success whilst contributing to Africa’s development, even from abroad?
